PROFILES
James L. Hilke, Ph.D.
Dr.
Hilke has worked with children and adolescents for over forty years. He
received a bachelor’s degree in English from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX, and then taught high school English in Colorado,
Illinois, Wisconsin, and Missouri before beginning graduate school at
St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO. Following the completion of a
master’s program in Counselor Education, he worked as a high school
counselor in St. Louis. In 1976 he moved to North Carolina to begin
work on his doctoral degree at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill and completed a master’s degree in school psychology in
1978. Dr. Hilke was the educational supervisor for Spring Hill School,
a school for emotionally disturbed adolescents at Dorothea Dix Hospital
in Raleigh, from 1978 until 1983 when he began his private practice
full time working with Dr. Don Adams. He completed his Ph.D. In 1984
and began Capital Area Psychological Services, P.A.
in 1989 and has maintained his full-time practice in psychology since
then. Dr. Hilke is married and has 2 grown daughters.
